No introduction needed for this; we are bored! We have been looking for any and everything to do in order to pass time. In my case, sleeping for 15 hours, cleaning my whole kitchen when I hate cleaning, and playing music until unholy hours did a little bit of help! However, MOVIES, SERIESES, AND BOOKS are what we really survive by, right?
Therefore, we decided to share few of our favorites
Movies
_How to steal a million (1996): To be extremely honest, the movie's plot is not the thickest. However, it is light-hearted, kind of funny, and very pleasing to look at. When Audrey Hepburn, ehem. my fav, decides to help her father who is half an inch from getting caught for forging masterpieces, she goes all the extra miles. If you're an art lover, you going to forget all about that quarantine for 2 hours. Museums, sculptures, paintings, and Hepburn’s enchanting beauty: what to complain about?
Se7en (1995): seven homicides, seven deadly sins, two detectives, one serial killer. You maybe have watched this before, we hope not. Anyways! As someone who is not in love with action movies, this one did the impossible for me! It has the perfect amount of action, thrill, classic literature, and dark academia atmosphere! Something out of the Inferno or the Paradiso, because no one got time for Purgatory. Directed by none other than David Fincher, starring Morgan Freeman, Brad Pitt, and Kevin Spacey. *Italian Chef kiss*
The Hundred-Foot Journey (2014): This is one of my favorite “feel good” movies. When two very different cultures, and their cuisines, co-exist, it is either peace or war. Culture clashes, assimilation, misunderstandings, and conflicts. But also, finding new ways, family bonding, love, and acceptance! Away from the story, which is amazing, the scenery is perfect: Rural France, beautiful food shots, and vintage atmosphere. The contrast between the French and the Indian culture side by side starts to frustrate you at first, but then it makes sense
BOOKS:
The First Phone Call from Heaven / Mitch Albom: Well, the book’s title is pretty much it, people starting getting phone calls from their deceased loved ones. However, the book carries a very philosophical and sentimental message that I couldn’t ignore. I never lend anyone my books, sorry for that, but I gave this one to my friend because I literally wanted everyone to read it. It is the type of book that by the end of it, you feel this “I’m glad I finished the book, but I’m angry I finished it”
Favorite quote: “The pain you go through in life doesn’t really touch you… not the real you. You are much lighter than you think”
You Get so Alone at Times That it Just Makes Sense/ Charles Bukowski: YES! This is the name of the book, what do you expect from Bukowski? I first knew about this book while watching “Beautiful Creatures.”. It is modern poetry book that’s so good; it leaves you with a little bit of existential dread. But are we listing it for your quarantine entertainment? Yes, I think we are.
Favorite poem: “No Help of that” “There is a place in the heart that will never be filled a space. And even during the best moments and the greatest times we will know it We will know it more than ever. There is a place in the heart that will never be filled and we will wait and wait in that place.”
SERIESES:
Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013- still airing): This show would definitely change your mood. A sitcom that had been airing for years! Brooklyn Nine-Nine would be a great pick for you to help you take all things lightly in such a stressful time. Just a couple of cops and police officers acting all goofy in a good way and having fun.
That '70s Show (1998–2006): Comedy about a group of teenage friends whom are transitioning to adulthood. The show focuses on their struggle with their parents, getting to college, and their romantic relationships. It`s fun to watch, and many would relate to the situations they face during the whole show.
