Abdel Rahman Abu Leila, the 19 years old photographer portraying life in an Egyptian village

Writer's picture: Ibraham AliIbraham Ali

Abdel Rahman Abu Leila was born in 2001 in the village of Snefeh in Mansoura.

His love for cameras and pictures started at a very young age.

He used to think that a photographer was the person sitting in the studio until he saw pictures of the streets of Cairo on Instagram. He felt that he could express his environment with photography. And started using his uncle's old camera and taking lessons from his friend Khaled until he was capable of approaching his vision

However, people in the village did not accept what he was doing. Sometimes when he was caught he ran away, and many of them even complained to his father. They did not understand why he was photographing them, and at that time he didn’t know what to say.

Abdel Rahman overcame his fear, later on, responding to their complaints, and telling them that it`s the art and that he is documenting and transmitting his vision of the place and them. Abd al-Rahman says that simply when he believed in himself and what he does, people believed in him and accepted him. When he was no longer afraid, he became closer to them.

Abdul Rahman believes that the image could change society and make people more aware.
